Harold Proctor, Sr., longtime Richmond citizen, lost his courageous battle with cancer on July 7, 2018. He was ninety-two years old. After proudly serving in Guam during World War II, he came to Richmond, started a family and went into the restaurant business. He managed Kelley’s Truck Terminal Restaurant on Route 1 and Walton’s Cafeteria in Scott’s Addition. In the mid-1960s, he opened one of Richmond’s first true delicatessens, Proctor’s Restaurant, on Hungary Road. Mr. Proctor retired in the 1990s, enjoying golf at Glenwood Golf Club. He was predeceased in 2016 by his close companion of 35 years, Virginia Miller. He is survived by children Judd Proctor of Silver Spring, MD, Todd Proctor of Raleigh, NC, and Gail Proctor Walsh of Chesapeake Beach, MD; grandchildren Brendan and Patrick Walsh, Katie Walsh Evans, and Georgia and August Proctor; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Phyllis Proctor Cutwright of Mineral, VA, and former wife, Betty Brooks, of Glen Allen, VA. A special thank you is extended to the Miller family, for their loving support. Mr. Proctor’s sunny, friendly disposition and generosity will truly be missed. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Harold Proctor’s name to American Legion Post 244, 2522 Indale Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
