In Loving

Adele W. Sloan

May 31, 1925 – June 13, 2024

“Honor her for all that hands have done, and let her works bring praise at the city gates.”

(Proverbs 31:31)

Adele W. Sloan was born May 31, 1925 to the late Ernest and Gussie White.  She departed life peacefully on June 13, 2024.

At an early age, Adele accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  She was an active and dedicated member of the St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, where she also spent her formative years.  At St. Paul’s, Adele was a member of the choir in her youth.  In her later years, she was a member of the Women’s Usher Board.

Adele received her education in Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1944.  A few years after graduating, Adele married, and she and her husband started their family in 1948 with the birth of their first son. They welcomed a total of five children with that union. Adele began her professional career at Jefferson Manufacturing Company and later transitioned to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she worked as a Certified Central Service Technician until her retirement.

Adele’s greatest joy was spending quality time at home with her beloved family.  She had a true talent for cooking and was renowned for her baking skills, particularly her homemade rolls.  The aroma of her freshly baked rolls would fill the air, drawing family and friends from near and far to gather around the table.

Adele was preceded in death by her brother, Roosevelt White; and sister, Elizabeth Garlick. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Braven L. “Butch” Sloan, Jr., Karen S. Williams, Lisa S. Pittman, Stephanie M. Sloan, and Marc L. Sloan; six grandchildren, Leiya R. Williams, Keith L. Harrison, Sr., Kelle D. Harrison, Braven L. Sloan, III, Dennis T. Jones, and Katelyn T. Sloan; eight great-grandchildren and one on the way; devoted nieces, Dorothy Cosby Peyton, Deborah W. Kenney, Michelle Garlick, and Dionne M. White; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at St. Paul Baptist Church, 4247 Creighton Road, Richmond, VA 23223. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond, VA.
