Anita Cassity Gunter, 78, of Richmond, Virginia, went to meet her Lord on Friday, November 3, 2023, with her family by her side.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gunter; her parents, Emma Lee Cassity and Eddie Cassity; her sister, Betty Clay; and her brother, David Cassity. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Gunter and Diane Gunter; her sisters, Barbara Miller and Lila Cassity; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born in 1945 in the small town of Crab Orchard, Anita grew up playing in the mountains and hollers of West Virginia. She met a young man at the local roller skating rink, and his job in the Navy took them away from the mountains. They settled in Richmond, Virginia, but West Virginia always had a huge hold on her heart. Anita worked for the C & P Telephone Company and Anthem Insurance, before and after raising her children.
Anita was nicknamed Angel as a baby because of her cherub countenance. She lived up to this name, as a selfless caregiver and faithful servant to her Lord. Anita was also an avid gardener, a lover of arts and crafts, and a positive and humorous person despite ongoing medical issues. She loved flowers, dancing to oldies, shopping, decorating for Christmas, and hanging out with her sisters around her mother’s kitchen table.
Deeply loved by her family, she will be remembered fondly.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 9 at River Road United Methodist Church 8800 River Rd., Richmond, VA 23229. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will be private.
