Anthony Edward Germani
January 11, 1948 – April 8, 2023
After a year-long battle with illness, Anthony “Tony” Edward Germani passed away on Saturday, April 8 at the age of 75 from complications of pancreatic cancer.
As an Air Force brat, Tony spent much of his childhood living overseas with his father Arthur, mother Genevieve, and sister Pam. Attending grade school in England, Germany, Japan, California, and Hawaii, Tony moved to the East Coast to attend university at Maryland, later graduating from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Business. He resided in Virginia the rest of his life.
After starting his family in Richmond, Tony felt a calling to the ministry and earned a Master of Divinity at Union Theological Seminary before becoming a Methodist pastor, first at St. James in Sandston and later at the St. Paul’s/Mt. Vernon parish in Caroline County. He was a talented sermon writer and often entertained parishioners with his fine voice and guitar accompaniment. Most of all, Tony was a good friend and counsel to many, both during and after his time with the church.
Tony was an avid reader and history buff and particularly admired Ulysses S. Grant. He enjoyed visits to historical sites with his children and grandchildren, holiday family gatherings, and the annual family camping trips that he sponsored and presided over. His family will greatly miss his cookie decorating parties, time spent with him playing cards and other games, and campfire conversations and music-making.
Tony was preceded in death by his grandson Austin. He is survived by his sister Pamela Quinlan; his children Alan, Christine, Stephen, and Morgan; his step-daughter Kelda Stephan; and his grandchildren Colton, Makayla, Brayden, Julia, Elora, Lyrics, Viktor, Henry, and Vera.
An informal gathering will be held in his honor for family and friends on Monday, April 24, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Parkway Richmond, VA 23294.
