Balewa Osei Hendy Jr. passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at the age of 24.
Balewa was born in Richmond, Virginia on August 28, 1998, his maternal grandmother’s 33rd birthday. He was the only son of Balewa Osei Hendy Sr. and Amanda Elaine Isaacs.
Balewa was an amazing person with the most contagious smile. He developed a love of music and sports at an early age. He played T-ball and football as a child and produced his own music as a teen. Balewa found his true passion of life in high school when he began barbering. He graduated from Henrico High School in 2016 with his Virginia Barbering Certification from Hermitage Tech Center. Balewa pursued this passion up until his untimely death.
Balewa was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother (Hilda Elaine Isaacs), his maternal great-grandfather (John Lewis Schools Jr), his maternal grandmother (Tammy Elaine Sparks), his paternal grandfather (Irwin Arthur Hendy), and his father (Balewa Osei Hendy Sr.).
Balewa is survived by his mother and her fiance (Amanda Isaacs and Cory Robinson), paternal grandmother (Virginia Denese Carthens), aunts (Nicole Juarez, Ayana Gustus, and Aneka Hendy), uncle (Christopher Fields), brother (Marquis Jones), sister (Chloe Belle Cook), life partner (Dayana Degand), step-children (Benjamin Craig Philippe Reason and Jordan Craig Reason), his beautiful daughter (Elizabeth Aurora Blaire Khlorealis Hendy), a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2023, with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294. A Celebration of Life will follow at the home of Nicole & Blas Juarez. The address will be provided at the funeral.
