Barbara J. Peteet
November 13, 1955 – December 16, 2022
Barbara Jo Peteet of Richmond, VA died Friday, December 16, 2022, in hospice care at her mother’s home, with her children and family at her side.
Born in Kosciusko, MS, she is the 3rd child of Mr. and Mrs. William Peteet, Sr. Barbara’s family migrated to Chicago when she was young. Chicago was her home. She was a proud graduate of Morgan Park High School Class of 1975. Barbara attended Olive-Harvey Community College in Chicago, Illinois, and obtained certification as an X-ray Tech, which led to a successful career opportunity at North Western Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago. Barbara’s mother was led to attend Christ Temple COCHUSA which changed her life and the lives of her children. Barbara’s acceptance of Christ was the answer to a mother’s prayer. Barbara became committed to ministry and connected to Spiritual mentors that were instrumental in pivoting her life. She worked for the National Publishing Board of COCHUSA for several years doing layout and design. It was there that Barbara’s love for Spiritual creativity and the Word begin to awaken. Upon the death of her brother, Barbara later moved to Richmond, Virginia, to be close to her immediate family, where she raised her two amazing children, Stephen LeMoyne and Kortney Chemelle Eloise. After raising her children, Barbara went to the rescue of young Treyvontae “Tre” Beasley when he was just a toddler. She adopted Tre in love and brought him into her home, where she raised him as her own son. Tre became her youngest child and she loved him relentlessly.
Evangelist Barbara was an active member of Future Church of Christ Holiness USA, where she served diligently under the leadership of Bishop Maurice Nicholson. She was known as a Prayer Warrior, an Intercessor, and a God Chaser. Barbara’s Mom affectionately refers to her as her twin and her baby; her nieces and nephews know her affectionately as TeeTee; her sisters affectionately call her Jo, their baby too; and to others Evangelist, Barbara is a dearest sweet cousin and friend.
Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Mr. William Peteet, Sr.; her brother, Mr. William Peteet, Jr. two brothers-in-law, Frank J. McGhee, Sr. and Virgil Bass, III; and her non-biological sister, Ms. Tangela M. Powells (loved and heralded as one of Mrs. Eloise’s daughters).
Barbara is survived by her remarkably resilient mother, Mrs. Eloise Peteet; by her three amazing children: Stephen Miles, Kortney Jackson, and Trevontae Beasley; her sisters: Mary L. Peteet McGhee, Linda F. Towers (Jimmy Dale), Billie D. Peteet Garrett (Godfrey), Pauline Peteet Bass, Renee T. Peteet, Tonjia A. Peteet and LaShawnda Peteet Allen (Anthony).; her non-biological brother and father in the Gospel, Bishop Fred L. Bridy; a host of very special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; cousins, other close family members, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Friday, December 23 at Affinity Funeral Service – Richmond Chapel, 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, Virginia 23294. A service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
