Obituary message
Betty Britton Brooks died peacefully on February 9, 2019, at 85 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hughes and Emma Britton; her husband of 65 years, David L. Brooks; her brother, Hughes Britton, Jr.; and her grandson, John Terrell. Betty’s brother, William Britton survived her by a number of hours and succumbed on the same day. Surviving Betty are her daughters, Linda Terrell (Buddy) and Nancy Leahy (Brian), and her son, Michael Brooks (Deborah). She leaves six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren to cherish her memory. Betty grew up on Richmond’s south side and graduated from John Marshall High School. During her teens she and her family moved to Argentina for three years with the DuPont Co. while her father helped with the startup of a new plant there. Betty worked for many years at Branches Baptist Church as the educational secretary. She and her family were longtime members of the church. Betty then helped her husband start and run a business, Pump One of Virginia. She loved to cook, bake, and cruise the Caribbean. Betty proudly served preserved vegetables from her husband’s garden and sent her strawberry preserves to all the family at Christmas. There was always a home baked pie, cake, or batch of cookies somewhere in her kitchen. Her practical advice and calm manner will be sorely missed. Burial will be private at a later date.
