Betty Hall James

January 24, 1949 – June 9, 2024

Betty Hall James, 75-years young, of Montpelier, VA (Hanover County) passed away on Sunday, June 9,2024. She is now Hiking ALL the Trails in Heaven. Betty “Foxfire” at age 68, hiked the 2275 miles, 14-states, Appalachian Trail from April to September 2016.

Betty was the FIRST Employee at James River Grounds Management in 1989. A local family-owned business. She retired after 27 years as Office Manager with CFO type responsibilities. The company grew to over 400-plus employees. The two owners, Ray Lazarchic and Mike Hildebrand (owner of James River Nursery) became Betty’s best friends. Words cannot express the kindness and respect Betty had for their lifetime friendship. She was very dedicated and appreciated their family management of the business. All employees were proud to be a part of this wonderful team of professionals. The company has the same values to all their customers and clients. It was honestly a pleasure for Betty to be a team member at James River Grounds Management.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Daniel E. James; son, George Thurman (GT) Hodges, (Shannon); grandson Sam; granddaughter Kate; sister Barbara Cooke (Dale); brother Greg Hall (Brenda); step-son, Danny James Buday, (Rieka); many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella (Nell) Garrett Hall, father, William Hall, Sr.; sisters, Sheila Hall Ennas and Joyce Hall Cooke; her brother and best friend, William Anthony (Tony) Hall, Sr.

Betty will be honored by family, friends, and co-workers at a Celebration of Life at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Outdoor Rear Pavilion at James River Cellars Winery, 11008 Washington Hwy, Glen Allen, VA 23059 with Pastor Terry M. Sharpe officiating. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
