SANGSTER, Betty Tellis, 86, of Richmond passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Mrs. Sangster was born September 2, 1932 in Irvington, VA. She was the eldest of five children and daughter of the late, John Linwood and Anne S. Tellis. Married for 67 years to her husband, William D. Sangster, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her great love of family was demonstrated throughout her life. She was a woman of kindness, strength and wisdom. Mrs. Sangster volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital for 16 years, which was a great passion for her, as was her love of music and the ballet. In addition to her husband Mrs. Sangster is survived by her three children, William D. Sangster, Jr. and David Price Sangster both of Richmond, and Deborah S. Deatherage and husband, Michael of Emerald Isle, NC; two grandchildren, Jason Wesley Shepherd and wife, Amanda of Blackstone, VA and Ryan Tyler Sangster and wife, Melody of Edgewater, MD; two great-grandchildren, Macon Grant and Samuel McArthur Shepherd both of Blackstone; sister Phyllis T. Herriges of Richmond; brother Charles Tellis of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
