Brenda Gail Hamner

December 10, 1945 – February 1, 2024

Brenda Gail Hamner, 78, of Henrico went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Brenda was born in Halifax County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Vinnie Salmon and Maggie Walker (Arthur Walker). In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willard Harold Hamner; and sister, Judy Bogan.

Brenda was a sister, mother, aunt, “Nana,” and a friend to many. She is survived by her children, Hope Myers (Shawn), Gail Carraway (Tommy), and Harold Hamner; grandchildren, Tyler Francisco (Sharmel), Matthew Carraway, Samantha Carraway, Kristen Myers, and Hailey Myers; great-grandchildren, Brayden Francisco and Aiden Emery; brother, Jimmy Salmon (Wanda); sisters, Linda Brydges and Ginnie Murphy (Gerald); and numerous nieces and nephews that she treated as her own.

Brenda retired from Ukrops after many years of service. She was known for her huge heart, her quick wit, and her profound love for the Lord. Brenda enjoyed caring for others; especially children.  She saw to it that those in her care always felt safe, loved and of course, were well-fed. She was a fantastic cook and she enjoyed making meals for her family; especially her peach cobbler, coconut cake, and macaroni and cheese. She had a love for the beach, gardening, fishing, dancing, and motorcycle rides. She leaves behind an amazing legacy, grounded in faith, love, and her dedication to caring for others.  Her impact on this world and the hearts of many will forever be remembered and cherished.

Her daughters, Hope and Gail, would like to give a special thanks to those who helped care for Brenda in her final days: Jimmy Salmon, Debra Maxwell, Margaret Lovgren, Hal and Sonja Taylor, April Shenk, and Ashley Vaughn.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Brenda on Thursday, February 8th at 4:00 pm at Passion Community Church, 4480 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, VA 23139. Reception to follow.

Please come and share your memories of this beloved sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
