Carole Lee Newbill
September 29, 1943 – October 16, 2022
Carole Lee (Canary) Gettman Newbill, 79, was born September 29, 1943. She passed away to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 16, 2022.
Carole is survived by her beloved, Melvin Kelly Sr.; brother, Albert Canary Jr. (Mike); her children, Deborah (Gettman) Lindsay (Scott) and Michael Newbill (Heather); and grandchildren, Cameron King, Isaiah Lindsay (Sophia), and Amelia Newbill. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Canary Sr.; her mother, Genevieve (Crafton) Canary; sister, Peggy (Canary) Peyton Buisset; and pets, Tippy, Duchess, Rocky, and Jack.
Carole had a tremendous love for her family. Growing up, she helped care for her siblings and often told stories of taking them along on her dates. She deeply loved and admired her parents and often spoke of their cherished memories and lessons learned from them. Carole was a wonderful, loving mother and was also known as Nannie to her three much-adored grandchildren. Carole had a great love for dogs and always had one or two by her side.
Carole was feisty, witty, and funny, always speaking her mind, and held the record for the fastest comebacks in her family. She loved drawing, painting, music, fishing, crabbing, boating, camping, horse races, and anything that involved spending time with family and friends. She was a wonderful caregiver, working in the ER at the hospital, at a home health care agency, and finally, caring for her own Mother.
The family wants to thank Carole’s loving caregivers at The Haven Assisted Living for your dedicated care, compassion, support, and smiles when things became a challenge. Thank you to each one of you for making Carole’s days fuller and brighter!
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to Noon Thursday, October 20, 2022 with a service to begin at Noon at Affinity Funeral Service, 8074 Mechanicsville Tnpk, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
