Catherine Iles

1940 – 2024

Catherine Iles, 83, of Richmond, VA, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024, at Covenant Woods in Mechanicsville. She was born in 1940, to John and Isabelle Garry.

Surviving are her daughter, Catherine of Glen Allen, VA; granddaughter, Sierra, and grandson-in-law, Tommy, of Williamsburg, VA; grandson, David of Glen Allen, VA; son, Wells, and daughter-in-law, Brenda, of Venice, FL; and former son-in-law, Ron of Glen Allen, VA. Cathy was preceded in death by her former husband, Gilbert Iles.

Cathy spent her formative years in New Jersey, where she worked in a family-owned candy store, Garry’s Confectionary. In her early twenties, she began her career as a bank teller. After the birth of her daughter, Cathy transitioned to a full-time role of devoted homemaker and mother. She successfully raised two beautiful children during these years, who, to this day, appreciate all of her efforts and the sacrifices she made. In 1999, she relocated to Richmond, where she embraced her new role as an active grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her beloved family. Cathy created a meaningful life in Richmond. She was an active member of the New Virginians Club and the Newcomers Club of Greater Richmond where she proudly served as president in 2010. Her compassion extended not only to friends and family, but also to family pets. Her continued love of rescue dogs demonstrated her benevolence and kind-heartedness over the years. Cathy enjoyed the art of hosting, especially when it came to throwing parties and celebrating holidays with friends and family. Here she could showcase her hospitality and love for entertaining others.

In addition to her love for family, and hosting warm, inviting gatherings, Cathy had a passion for theatre, tennis, Mahjong, Scrabble, sailing, and boating, relishing her time spent on the water.

A memorial service to celebrate Cathy’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on March 22, 2024, at Covenant Woods. The interment will be private.

Cathy was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend; she will be greatly missed by all. Her warm presence, kindness, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
