In Loving

Celena Diana Shaw

March 29, 1985 – April 15, 2024

Celena Diana Shaw, 39, of Richmond, VA transitioned on Monday, April 15, 2024, due to complications of Sickle Cell Anemia.

Celena “Beanie Baby” was born on March 29, 1985, to Cheryl Shaw, with the help of Calvert Harris. She graduated from John Marshall High School in 2003 and attended J. Sergeant Reynolds College to study nursing. Celena gave so much love to others, and she always strived to do her best with everything in life. Her battles with her sickness started at age two with her first surgery, with many more surgeries would follow after. She found herself in the hospital more than home, yet she always smiled through the pain and sought laughter in times of despair. Celena was a strong, tough, hopeful woman. No matter how different she was from others, she never limited her abilities to flourish freely based on the stereotypes of people with disabilities. Celena was always ABLE! She won the ultimate battle; she lived.

Beanie Baby is survived by her loving mommy, Cheryl Shaw-Paige (Stephen); James Robertson, Cyril Robertson, Chine’ Thomas-Shaw, Gail Panton, Carter Pryor, Jayden, Jordyn Robertson, and Earlena Foskey; two godchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who were dear to her.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294.
