Charles Edward Cordrey

August 3, 1937 – January 27, 2023

Charles (Chuck) Edward Cordrey of Richmond, VA, (85) died January 27, 2023, while under the care of Hospice at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, VA. He was born in Salisbury, MD on August 3, 1937 and was the son of the late Richard Thomas Cordrey and Thelma Ennis Cordrey.

He graduated from Wicomico Senior High School in 1955 and attended State Teachers College (now Salisbury University) and Lehigh University. He worked for the Sunshine Biscuit Company (3 years), IBM Corporation (10 years), Potter Instrument Company (3 years) and retired from Phillip Morris USA (18 Years) in 1993. He did consultant work and inspections for Motor Transportation Inspection company. On one of his inspection jobs he met Ruth East who was his longtime companion and caregiver. He was a member of the Wicomico Senior High School Band playing the clarinet and saxophone, a 4-H member and a Boy scout troop 149 member at Bethesda United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, building model airplanes, photography and was an excellent cook. As a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, he traveled over 100 thousand miles on his Honda motorcycle. His passions included being an Amateur Ham Radio operator (W3FUT) and flying his own M20 Mooney airplane.

He is survived by a son Mark A Cordrey (Susan) and grandchildren Sean, Evan and Sarah of Mechanicsville, VA; a son Steve E Cordrey (Shaena) and grandson Jackson of El Segundo,CA; a sister Beverley Cordrey Lynch of Salisbury,MD; and his longtime companion and caregiver, Ruth East of Midlothian, VA. He is also survived by nephews Michael T Owens of Delmar, MD and Ryan E Owens (Rosie) of Salisbury MD and their families; and cousins- Judith Cordrey Stark (Charles) of Florence, SC, Mary Louise Kerley and Anna Carolyn Campbell of Delmar, MD and John Albert Ennis (Beverly) of Salisbury,MD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Albert and Della Ennis; paternal grandparents, Hermus and Ethel Cordrey; aunts and uncles, Elwyn Ennis, Madeline Ennis Wells, Edward and Pauline Cordrey; cousins, James E Cordrey and Sarah Della Ennis Moore; a brother-in-law, Larry Richard Lynch.

Charles gave often and generously to many charities. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. A graveside service and inurnment will be held on June 16,2023 at 11am in Wicomico Memorial Park, 721 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD
