Claudia Cecilia Swanson
July 30, 1955 – June 18,2019
SWANSON, Claudia Cecilia, of Powhatan County, passed away on June 18, 2019. Born in San Marcos, Texas, to Leda and Frank Jensen, Claudia was the oldest of five children. Her father was an Army officer, so she grew up on the move, living throughout the country and in Germany before her family settled in northern Virginia. In 1981, she moved to the Richmond area, where she raised four kids. A lover of nature, Claudia was a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, environmental educator and certified Master Gardener. She owned and operated Dirty Hands Garden Center in Powhatan from 1997 to 2013. Claudia passed peacefully, surrounded by family, at the house of a friend alongside the James River. She was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her mother, her two brothers and two sisters, her four “fabulous” children and her two lovely grandchildren. Her warmth, energy and passion will be remembered by all who met her. A visitation will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Powhatan on Friday, August 2, 6 to 8 p.m. with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will commence the next day at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Richmond SPCA.
Very sorry to hear about Claudia. She was a kind Hearted person and will always be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her Family
Claudia was full of life, love, energy and fun! I honestly believe she came up with “the shag” haircut because one day at WTWoodson she turned upside down, grabbed all of her pretty long hair about half way down the pony tail and then cut it off with a scissors in one big snip. She stood up and flipped her hair back and voila – the shag was born! I am sorry that she has left us too soon, but her light will surely shine on. My sincere condolences.
