Colonel Donald M. Nagel (Ret), 89, of Richmond, Virginia, slipped into everlasting arms on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in his home.
Don grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois. He received a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois. His 26-year career as a U.S. Air Force pilot included a combat tour in Vietnam and the privilege of commanding the 314th Tactical Airlift Wing of C-130 aircraft at Little Rock AFB. Always curious about how things worked, he loved cars, boats, and airplanes. Don could fix almost anything, and he enjoyed helping friends with their mechanical problems. More than anything else, he loved being a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and trusted friend.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Bloxom Nagel; his three children, Carl Nagel (Peg ) Barbara Cooper (Jim), and Beth Roper (Erik); his brothers, Edward Nagel (Edith) and Roland Nagel (Nancy); nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 11 at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Pkwy, Richmond, Virginia 23233. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational Christian United Church of Christ, 4310 Courthouse Road, Chesterfield VA 23832.
