Darlene Snelson Ogden

April 12, 1956 – February 9, 2021

OGDEN, Darlene Snelson, 64, a native Richmonder, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Darlene was born April 12, 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Nash Ogden; and father, James Young Snelson.  She leaves behind her loving family, Brandon Sullivan and his partner Callie Elliott; her stepchildren, Julia and Marc Ayscue and Fredrick and Jordan Ogden.  Darlene, known as Didi by her grandchildren, was blessed with RJ, Palmer Nash, Libbie Jane, Georgia Grant, and Henry Frederick.  Darlene S. Ogden is survived by her mother Bobbie Ann Snelson, her brothers Arnold and Mary Snelson, Donnie and Sherri Snelson, Rusty Snelson, brother-in-law Clay and Susan Ogden and their families; including the many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who refer to her as Auntie.  She was beloved by her many extended family members and friends who were like family. Darlene was a graduate of Highland Springs High School and the Braxton School of Business. While she held many professional roles beginning at Georgia Pacific Corporation and finishing with Lafayette, Ayers & Whitlock PLC; her creative eye for interior design was her passion.  Darlene will be remembered as a loving daughter, proud mother, adoring grandmother, the best Auntie and a rock for her family and friends. Fiercely Independent, very particular, so much fun, full of spunk, and deeply devoted are only some of the many ways that those who called her Darlene, Mom, Auntie, Didi or Sis regularly used when referring to her beautiful tough spirit.  Darlene’s giggles, stern looks, stellar advice, and hugs will be missed. Darlene’s family and friends have cherished all of the extra time that they have been given with her and wish her peace without pain as she takes this next path with gusto.  Darlene will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Bruce at the Hollywood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to VCU Massey Cancer Center, P.O. Box 980214, Richmond, Va. 23298, Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2924 Brook Road, Richmond, Va. 23220, or the Central Virginia Food Bank – FeedMore, 1415 Rhoadmiller Street, Richmond, Va. 23220.
