In Loving
Memory

Dennis Al Nixon

Feb. 26, 1947 – Jan. 15, 2021

Mr. Dennis Al Nixon, age 73, of Henrico County, entered eternal rest on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Memorial Regional Medical Center in Hanover, Virginia.

Dennis was born on February 26, 1947 to the late Robert Rudolph Nixon and Georgianna Gibbs.  He was educated in the Chesapeake Public School System, where he graduated in 1965.  After graduation, he entered the United States Air Force.  My dad was a proud Veteran and he loved to eat breakfast at the VA Hospital with local vets.  After his career with the Air Force, Dennis received an Associate Degree in Computer Science.  He remained in this field until his retirement from Verizon.
Dennis loved God and loved God’s Word.  He taught Sunday School for many years and loved to study and conversate on God’s Word.  Dennis also loved fishing.  I don’t know which one he loved more, “catching the fish or eating the fish”.
Dennis was a member of The Salvation Army Church.  He loved his church family and they loved him.  He was a bus monitor, drove the bus for the kettle bell ringers, taught vacation Bible School, and he loved attending the men retreats.  This brought him so much joy, which in return brought me so much joy.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Rudolph Nixon and Georgianna Gibbs; two brothers Lee James Nixon and Ronnie Gibbs, and his son-in-law, Richard Holder.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted daughter, Helena Denise Holder, a “bonus” son, Marcus L. Mitchell (Sherneal); granddaughter, Jasmine Kyesha Bradshaw, “bonus” grandsons, Lathan and Landon Mitchell; one sister, Mrs. Cecelia Cuffee; two brothers, Cecil Nixon and Warner Gibbs (Melba), two aunts, Pauline Sykes and Doris Edmonds; one uncle, Roscoe Wilson (Mary Ann); 5 nieces, Gail Bradshaw (William), Beverly Sanders, Patricia Terry (Marion), Tammy Brothers (Larry), Jan Woody (Wayne); 4 nephews, Hardie Cuffee Jr., Dennis Cuffee (Collette), Warner Gibbs III, Luther Gibbs; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A walk through visitation will be held from Noon to 4:30 pm Tuesday, January 26 at Affinity Funeral Service – Mechanicscville Chapel, 8074 Mechanicsville Tnpk, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A funeral service will be held at Noon Wednesday, January 27 at The Salvation Army, 5327 Orcutt Ln, Richmond, VA 23224. A private interment will be held at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
