Hogwood, Donald Levine, 92, of Prince George, VA left his earthly home on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 when the heavenly angel visited him and said “your job on earth is done, come with me and rest.” Donald was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather; loyal friend to many and a true Patriot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher C. and Catherine Collier Hogwood; daughter Cheryl Ayn Hogwood Stech; and son Charlton Bond Hogwood. He is survived by his devoted wife, Anona (Getchell Estes) Hogwood “Noni”; sons Christopher G. Hogwood, Channon Beau Hogwood (Sylvia); daughters Challis Smith, Chawn Harris, Chana King, and Dolledon Hogwood; step-children, Debora Estes, Kimberly Estes Clements (William), Derek S. Estes (Kathy), and Dana K. Estes (Betty); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his most recent love, Goldie (greyhound). Donald was born in Petersburg, Va on Nov. 16, 1926. He lived in Ettrick, VA until he left high school to enlist in the Navy in 1943. He served in the south pacific until he was honorably discharged in July 1947. Donald returned to high school and then to NC State Univ. He married Eleanor Bond and they had eight children. Donald married Anona Estes in 1989. He retired from Otis Elevator Company 1989. Donald and Noni were faithful members/attendees of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Heights. He was a member of Masonic Lodge Blandford 15 AF&AM; and ACCA Shrine Center in Richmond, ACCA Shrine Motor Patrol and a Charter member of Manchester Shrine Club. Donald truly exemplified the shrine motto “No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.” Recently he became active in James River Greyhounds, an adoption agency for finding forever homes for retired racers. We received Goldie through this group. A memorial service and Masonic service will be held on Tuesday Dec. 11th at 11am at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 501 Old Town Drive, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Reception in the fellowship hall to follow. Interment will be private.
