Obituary message
Akery, Dorothy (Dot) Burns of North Chesterfield, peacefully passed away on June 16, 2017, surrounded by family and close friends. Upon graduating high school, sixteen-year-old Dot left her Wisconsin home to begin a working career in Washington, DC. She ultimately became a highly successful real estate broker in the greater Richmond area, serving in that capacity for over 50 years and proudly achieving Real Estate Broker Emeritus status. Known for her intelligence, spirit, sense of humor, quick wit, love of family, friends and animals and for her significant generosity, Dot was a USO, American Red Cross and CASA volunteer. She is lovingly survived by four children: James Burns (Elaine), Bonnie Andresakes (James), Donna Pham (Vu) and Christopher Akery (Hope) and by three grandchildren; Ashley Tremper, Cory Spiers (Ellie) and Matthew Akery. Dot’s family offers its sincere thanks to the nursing and medical staff at VCU Medical Center for their kind and competent care. A commemoration of her life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
Dot was my friend and substitute sister for 49 years. We were like sisters and best friends. We worked together in Real Estate and played together as best buddies. I will greatly miss her but know in my heart that she is no longer suffering and in a better place. I send my deepest sympathies and my love to each and every family member especially the children and grandchildren. Rest in peace my Sister Friend ..Go with God !i
Add another memory of Dottie Burns at The Ampthill Drug Store. Mom worked there, too, and I had the pleasure of babysitting for Jim and Bonnie back in the good old days. Dottie was so respected and loved by all. With Love, Linda Rash Sprouse-Scott, Nancy Rash Bordeaux and Gary Rash
