Elizabeth “Betty” Wood 

 December 1, 1928 – February 24, 2024

Betty Wood, 95, of Richmond, Virginia died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, February 24, 2024. 

Betty was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to Sarah Allen Farr and Rogers Nelson Farr in 1928.  She attended the College of St. Joseph in Emmitsburg, Maryland, and after earning her Bachelor’s degree in 1950 she worked for New York Telephone for several years before marrying Walter Wood and moving to Boston, Massachusetts in 1960.  They welcomed four children and raised them in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New Jersey.  Once her children were established in life she returned to the workplace, eventually retiring from AT&T in 1989.  She relocated to Richmond in 1998 where she was an active member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church and the Woman’s Club of Bon Air as well as a volunteer at St. Francis Home. 

 Betty was an avid crossword puzzle solver, a voracious reader of fiction, and a lifelong animal lover who enjoyed the companionship of various canine friends over the years. 

 Betty was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Kathryn Farr.  She is survived by her children, John Wood (Zahid Chaudhary) of New York, New York, Sarah Zollicoffer (Hill) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mary Elizabeth “Merv” Baldecchi (Danny) of Richmond, and Paul Wood of Santa Rosa, California.  She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Tuc, Brooke, and Ellie Baldecchi, Jack and Perry Zollicoffer, Molly Wood Schoen, Abbe, and Ellie Wood.  

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23  at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Road, Richmond, VA 23229.
