Emily Allen Newman

Feb. 25, 1941 – Jul. 16, 2019

Emily Ruth Allen Newman of Richmond, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on July 16, 2019 at the age of 78.  Emily was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  She was the daughter of Mamie Horne-Allen and Boyd Allen, deceased.  She is survived by her sister Barbara Jean Ruff; sons, Tracy Lamont Newman and Shaun David Newman; granddaughter, Scotlyn Harper Newman; nephew, Richard T. Ruff, Jr.; and countless friends, acquaintances, and family members, including childhood friend Bernice Best.

Emily was a graduate of Hampton Institute.  She was a retired science school teacher of Montgomery County Public School, Maryland. Emily loved the Lord, and was always eager to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  She enjoyed travel, playing scrabble, interior design, reading, and to all who knew her, she was a consummate style maven.

Before God called Emily to eternal rest, she was engrossed learning the Holy Scripture in Hebrew, fulfilling a promise she made to herself after visiting the Holy Land.

Through multiple health challenges, Emily believed God for her healing.  Today she sits at his table celebrating her eternal home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 26 at Affinity Funeral Service Richmond Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt Vernon Memorial Park.
