In Loving
Memory

Ernest James Shearin

Aug. 16, 1948 – Aug. 26, 2020

Ernest  James Shearin, loving husband and father of two sons, passed away peacefully at his home in Henrico, VA, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at the age of 72.

He was born August 16, 1948, in Norfolk, VA, to Ernest and Marie Shearin.  He followed in his father’s footsteps and started an apprenticeship in his teens at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he worked for the next 32 years, eventually retiring as a supervisor of Shop 11.

After a distinguished career of federal service, Ernie moved to Henrico, VA, to be closer to his children and their families.

In his spare time, Ernie loved visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA, where he would go tent camping, hiking, and fishing with his family.  He was also always on the search for the best eastern NC style BBQ and hidden culinary gems off the beaten path, which usually translated into small hole-in-the-wall restaurants or bakeries.  He never did find any kind of  BBQ outside of NC that could beat it.

Ernie never missed an opportunity to spend time with his family at get-togethers, holidays, and beach house vacations. He also enjoyed going on cruises with his wife, with whom he recently celebrated his 49th anniversary.

Ernie will be forever remembered as the most loving, kind, gentle, and selfless person you could ever meet.  He was always willing to drop whatever he was doing to help others, whether it be family, friends, neighbors, or complete strangers.

Ernie was preceded in death by his father, Ernest C. Shearin.  Ernie is survived by his mother Marie, his wife Dianne, his two sons, Matthew and Andrew, his daughters-in-law, Pilar and Jessica, and his grandchildren, Kiergan, Ethan, Kaelyn, Kaylee, and Kayden.

Thank you for being so wonderful to my sister, niece and nephew. You were always kind to my family and I was very lucky to meet you and hear your stories. You were very giving, wise and non-judgemental. I appreciate all you have done to make the world a better place and by always smiling and being positive. Thank you and you will be missed. Love, Tab

    Dianne,
I sent an e-mail to Ernie on Aug. 10th, but did not hear back from him, so I found out today on the computer, that he had passed away on Aug.26th. I hope he read my last e-mail, since it was the last communication between us. I am so very sorry for your loss and for Matthew and Andrew. Our loss is heaven’s gain. I know we will see Ernie again in heaven, where he is enjoying Jesus and all his friends in the Lord. I remember being his best man at your and his wedding, and all the times we had together when we were young. I knew something must have been wrong, since he always e-mailed me back. We loved each other and I will miss not being able to write him and differ on politics and such. If I can do anything for the family, please let me know. I tried to call you, but the phones are off. Especially remember me to Ernie’s mom. Tell her I miss him too.
    Love you all.,
Rev/Dr. Thomas Hill Sawyer (Hixson, TN)
