Ernestine Rector Deuell, 88, went to be with our Lord on December 27, 2023. She was born in the mountains of Canton NC on July 15, 1935, raised in Hampton VA, and became a long-time resident of Henrico County, VA. She started her career working at Woolworths and various other retail jobs before moving into the commercial Insurance Industry and working her way up to underwriter. Tina served as a Worthy Mason and a Star Point in the Eastern Star and was a past President of the Shriners Klownettes.
Named after her father, Ernestine was called Tina or Tine to most, but to her family she was known as honey, momma, grandma, and nana. Tina was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline Rice; her parents, Ernest and Ruby Rector; and her two sisters, Joann Jones and Carolyn Dean. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Deuell; two sons, Phillip Deuell (Gayle) and Mike Deuell (Vanessa); her daughter Debbie Deuell Calder (Corey); her brother, Tommy Rector; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Tina was a very active, outdoor lady. While growing up a tomboy, she was also respectfully prim and proper. Along with Tommy, her devoted husband of 70 years and best friend, Tina enjoyed family outings to the park, beach, mountains, camping, softball, and bowling. When she felt cooped up in the house, she would get Tommy to drive her out to the country or just down the road to get an ice cream. She traveled to 37 of the 50 States including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Canada, Europe and Israel. Tina was a spiritual woman who loved to read the word of Jesus, inserting articles and clippings within certain passages of her Bible. She was an avid reader and preached the importance of education, encouraging her children to graduate college and follow their dreams.
