Obituary message

Ewing, Floydette Edwards of Midlothian, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Born on August 25, 1941, she was predeceased by her parents, Andrew Franklin and Virginia Collins Edwards. She was also predeceased by her devoted brother, Gene Andrew Edwards. Her life on this earth will be remembered by her loving and devoted husband, William J. Ewing; her beloved daughter, Sharon Pitt (Kenneth Sampson); a stepson, Adam Ewing (Kelley); a stepdaughter, Hope Smith; sister-in-law, Sylvia Edwards; grandson Patrick Sampson; step-grandsons, Matthew Sampson, Jake Milkey, Acton Smith; step-grandaughter, Piper Smith; and many other dear family members and friends. She was most recently a member of the Winfree Memorial Baptist Church and the Robin McNeny Sunday School Class. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University and earned her Masters in Education from Old Dominion University. She taught in Culpeper, Hanover and Isle of Wight counties for a total of 22 years and during that time was “Teacher of the Year” at Smithfield Elementary. She ended her teaching career in Chesterfield County, where she taught for 3 years before her retirement in 2004. Over the years she exhibited a great love for her large family and many blessed friends. Her love of music was evident throughout her life -from singing in her immediate family’s quartet, playing the piano, keyboard or ukulele, singing in church choirs for over 30 years, singing in the Smithfield Madrigals in the late 1980’s, to showing a great appreciation for good performances. A memorial service will be held at Winfree Memorial Baptist Church at 3PM on Friday, April 21, 2017. Following the service the family will receive friends at the fellowship hall. Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity.
