Frank Anderson Porter

February 15, 1951 – May 17, 2024

Frank Anderson Porter, age 73, passed away on May 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was predeceased by his parents Guy Robert Porter and Helen Anderson Porter. Frank is survived by his wife Jessica; children Jennifer Brooks (Erich), Matthew Porter (Danielle), Stephen Porter (Amanda), and Morgan Porter; two stepchildren John (Lisa) and Emily; grandchildren Connor Brooks, Daven Porter, Eden Porter, and Emma Porter; and two step-grandchildren Louis and Owen. He is also survived by his siblings Anne Porter, Andrew Porter (Nan), Beth Porter, Claire Porter, Patsy Porter, Sheila Brannau, and honorary sister Molly Keith; and several nieces and nephews Megan Porter, Courtney Porter (Rob Francis), Madeline Hyde (David), Katie Brannau, Matt Brannau, Hannah Brannau, Brian Brannau, Mary Claire Brannau, and William Brannau. He is also survived by his former spouse and mother of his children, Mary Reeves Danter.

Frank grew up in Villanova, Pennsylvania and excelled in several sports, including track and field, basketball, and his true passion – soccer. After attending The School of the Holy Child in Rosemont and The Haverford School, he graduated from Washington and Lee University with a degree in Economics and St. Mary’s School of Law. Upon graduation, Frank worked for Neighborhood Legal Aid Society first as a VISTA attorney and then as a staff attorney. He was in the private practice of law for twenty years before he changed professions and worked for General Tax Services as a bookkeeper and tax preparer.

Frank coached recreational soccer with FC Richmond for many years and played adult recreational soccer with the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He enjoyed the performing arts and took the stage at several Richmond community theaters.

Frank will forever be remembered as an exemplary father, husband, grandfather, and human being. He embodied the best qualities of unconditional love, strength of spirit, and a “walk it off” mentality. He will be missed dearly by his family and countless others whose lives he impacted in beautiful ways. We love you, Frank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Redeemer in Mechanicsville, VA at 11:00 am on Friday May 31, 2024. A reception at the church will follow the service and burial will be private.

In remembrance of Frank’s love of life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Be The Match or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
