Gary Hayden Parker

December 19, 1961 – May 11, 2024

Reflections of Life 

Gary Hayden Parker, loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend gained his angel wings and departed us in this life unexpectedly on May 11, 2024. Gary lived a beautiful life filled with love from all who had the chance to know him.

Gary Hayden Parker was born on December 19, 1961, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia to parents, Elsie Williams Parker and Emmett Gordon Parker of Milford, Virginia. Gary attended and graduated from Caroline High School in Caroline, VA.

After graduation, Gary joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss, in El Paso, Texas. He was later honorably discharged after serving our nation in Wiesbaden, Germany. After his service, Gary returned home to Virginia attending Rappahannock Community College where he was a student-athlete and member of the baseball team. He then went on to transfer to J. Seargent Reynolds Community College, where he received his associate degree in political science. Upon graduation, he went on to become a juvenile correctional officer for the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, where he worked for many years.

Gary married Tina Fauntleroy and from this union, he gained a stepson, Royal Fauntleroy of Chesterfield, VA, and his son, Ryan was born. Gary, a loving father influenced and crafted his son Ryan’s love for sports and baseball and guided him to build a career around this love, he now resides in Dallas, Texas. In later years, Gary married Vicki Norwood of Connecticut and gained a stepdaughter, Marissa. Vicki was diagnosed with cancer and was cared for by her husband Gary until the moment she left this earth in January 2022.

Gary enjoyed spending time with his loving family and attending sporting events with his pride and joy Ryan. He was a faithful Washington Redskins fan alongside his son Ryan. His profound love of sports fueled his humorous at home commentating during any and every game he watched, as if he was a broadcaster. He enjoyed listening to music, spending time detailing his car, tending to his lawn, playing sports, and having daily talks with his brother Darryl.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emmett Parker; wife, Vicki Parker; and sister-in-law, Patricia Parker. Gary leaves to cherish fond memories his son, Ryan Parker; stepson Royal Fauntleroy his wife, Andrea, and their son Royal Jr; stepdaughter, Marissa; mother, Elsie Parker; brother, Darryl Parker; niece, Taylor Parker; special niece, Tiffany Parker (Keith); and a host of family and friends.

Gary was a one of a kind, once in a lifetime human being, he was filled with endless love, compassion, and kindness for others. He wanted true love and happiness for everyone and encouraged us all to live life to the fullest. His absence will always be felt in our lives, but he will forever live in our hearts. Gary Hayden Parker will forever be loved and honored by all who were blessed to know him.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024 at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise  Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
