On January 3, 2017 George Palmer Dunkley III, (Sonny), 58, was called home to heaven. Sonny was the oldest son of the late George P Dunkley, Jr of Gladys, Virginia and is survived by his mother, Barbara P Dunkley, his son Landon and his wife, Amanda, two grandchildren, Palmer and Sienna, son Justin Dunkley and his wife, Lisa, son Noah Dunkley, sister Mary Ann Davies and brother-in-law, John Siddall, brother Greg, and niece Anna Davies and nephew Graham Davies. Sonny battled advanced stage COPD and most recently was diagnosed with congestive heart disease. His courage was evidenced by his living beyond the short-term prognosis offered by his doctors, his embrace of Christ, and unrelenting will to live. Sonny will be forever remembered for his spirit of laughter and passion for life.
A memorial service is planned at Chesterfield Heights Retirement Community, 901 Madrona St, Midlothian, where he had lived for the last 18 months, made numerous friends and was held in high regard by all who knew him. We owe a debt of gratitude to the management especially Paul and Rosemary Mary, and all his friends who provided support and friendship in his struggle. A special thanks to Bon Secours Hospice and the home care team from Caremed.
Services will be in the 3rd floor chapel under the direction of Rev. Deacon Ken Mills on Friday, January 13 at 7:00 PM. An inurnment service is planned for later at Catawba Baptist Church, Nathalie, Virginia where he will be laid to rest beside his father.
