Gloria Runnett Leahey 80, of Mechanicsville, VA passed peacefully at home in the presence of her family on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
Gloria was born in the Bronx, NY but grew up in Mineral, VA before moving to the Richmond area where she lived most of her life. After retirement, she briefly lived in Atlanta, GA, and then returned to Mechanicsville, VA for her final years. Gloria served the greater Richmond community as a Respiratory Therapist through home care, St. Mary’s Hospital, and the majority of her career at Chippenham Medical Center. Gloria was an artist, avid reader, and dog lover.
Gloria has said many times how she looked forward to her Heavenly reunion with her mother, Nora Runnett; her grandmother, Jenny Runnett; brother John D. Runnett; grandson Justin Yancey; the love of her life, John Dalton; and her beloved basset hounds, Maggie and Belle. Now they are all celebrating her arrival together with a nice hot cup of tea listening to “Sweet Virginia Breeze” and “Georgia on My Mind” playing in the background.
Gloria is survived by her son, James “Jimmy” Leahey (Dianna); daughter Kathleen Barkley (John); brothers Lloyd Runnett (Lynne); Tom Runnett (Belle); sister-in-law Carole Runnett; grandchildren Patrick Leahey (Katherine), Matthew Yancey (Megan), Sarah Leahey, Aaron Leahey, Tyler Barkley, Kyle Barkley, Ryan Barkley; great-grandchildren Mitchell, Bella, Paxton, Harper; and her sweet pups, Jill, Molly, and Chester.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 21 at Grace Christian Church in Mechanicsville, VA. A service will follow at 11 a.m. The interment will be private.
