Gregory Morris Lawson, 64, of Narrows, VA passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023. He was born May 7, 1959, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, the youngest of three sons born to Raymond George Lawson and Madeline Toler Lawson. He graduated from Thomas Dale High School in Chester, VA, and furthered his education at John Tyler Community College near Richmond, VA.
From an early age, Greg displayed a strong work ethic, engaging in construction during his school years and even venturing into the world of big rig driving as a young man. Later, he found his niche in the sale of automotive shop equipment which ultimately led him to a lifelong career in the sale, maintenance, and service of auto body equipment. He worked as a distributor and installer for Blowtherm and Global Finishing Solutions Spray Booths throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas.
Greg was truly a jack of all trades. He was a phenomenal artist, carpenter, mechanic, designer, and architect. An avid sports fisherman and motorsports aficionado, he also had a deep appreciation for music. He enjoyed taking his children, Brian and Lexi, to concerts, whether it was Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, or Godsmack with Metallica. He made life fun. Being a good father and opening doors for his children was his highest priority.
He was a natural teacher but also a generous listener. His unshakable dry wit and seemingly boundless intellect made him an affable but captivating conversationalist. He was sincere and made those around him feel accepted and valued. Compassionate beyond measure, the word, “no,” just wasn’t in his vocabulary when someone needed help.
The greatest love in Greg’s life was reserved for his children and grandchildren. It was the time spent with them that brought him the most joy. Family trips to Cape Hatteras with his children and later his grandchildren and dear canine companion, Mojo, were treasured moments. Simple pleasures like walks to the park with granddaughter Maggie and watching grandson Hank play or long phone calls from Richmond with his daughter and grandsons Nick and Elliott brought him so much happiness. The love Greg had for his family could only be matched by the love his family had for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents but he leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by his children, Brian Gregory Lawson of Narrows, VA, and Alexandria Lawson Stone (Todd) of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Madeline Layne Lawson, Henry Morris Lawson, Nick Stone, and Elliott Stone. In addition, he is survived by his brothers: George Stanley (Sherron) of Roswell, Georgia, and Andrew Harvey (Elaine) of Gorham, Maine, along with two nephews, a niece, and many close cousins. Among those who will remember Greg fondly is his best friend, Stephen Peters of Pearisburg, VA, along with many friends near and far. He will be missed terribly.
Although we never met, we knew each other. I know you are loved by your family and your great conversations will be missed. I hope you have found peace and healing in Jesus’ loving embrace. I hope for joy for your family when they think of you.

You were an amazing father to have raised such an absolutely perfect daughter. I thank you for all of your kindness and for giving so much during your life here on earth, especially to your daughter. I promise you that your efforts have paid off to contribute something pretty incredible to this world. I know that you’re in heaven with my mom.

Greg was a wonderful guy with always a story to tell. He will be truly missed.
This is such a touching tribute to my cousin Greg. He was my mother’s brother’s son. I miss him and was stunned to hear of his passing. Even as I have an empty space in my heart I will cherish my wonderful memories of him.
I met Greg, Madeline and George in 1974 and they quickly became family to me. We shared dinners , drinks and stories often. 1980 my husband, George Thompson joined the bond and our family grew. Our children soon learned the stories of the wonderful Lawson family and a life time bond we have had with Greg. We will cherish memories forever.
