Herbert Alston
May 10, 1936 – June 21, 2022
Herbert Alston, 86, of Sumter, South Carolina went to sleep on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Chippenham Hospital.
Herbert was born to Samuel Alston and Margaret McLeod on May 10, 1936. He came to Richmond, Virginia in the early 1950’s….who knew a few years later he would find the love of his life and marry Estelle Hammond on Aug 31,1959. Together they have three children, Keith Alston, Kevin Alston (wife Tanya), and Kathy Alston; one grandson John Scipio; and two surviving sisters, Edna Rembert of North Carolina and Shirley Lokey of Philadelphia, PA.
As a young man, Herbert began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and on Feb 1,1970, he along with his wife, Estelle, dedicated their lives to Jehovah God at Peabody Middle School in Petersburg, Virginia. As his love for Jehovah grew, one of his greatest joys was serving the Christian Congregation as an overseer at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 40 years. Although he is sleeping, he will be greatly missed until Jesus’ prophecy at John 5:28, 29 is fulfilled.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5720 Swanson Road, Richmond, VA 23225.
The services will be streamed on Zoom. The family asks all who attend to please where a mask. Thank You!

We will truly miss our dear friend and brother. He was always willing to help, and he did. How we long for the words of Revelation 21:3&4 ” the former things have passed away.”
My deepest sympathy and condolences to Diva, Kathy, Kevin, Keith and the rest of the family. Our beloved brother is where I choose to think of my loved ones. They are in the sleeping compartment on a train. Jesus is the conductor. Their destination, the Resurrection. When they arrive, they will hear Jesuś voice and come out.(John 5:28 & 29) My favorite scripture. They will disembark to our open arms and uncontrollable tears of joy! Soon….
Sending prayers and love to our Alston Family. We look forward to the time when we will all be together and live forever with one another, a promise Jehovah guarantees. We love you all and will miss our dear friend.

With love and my deepest condolences to the Austin family. Although I am fairly new to the congregation, Bro. Alston was a beautiful Brother full of love and zeal for Jehovah. What a comfort it is to know that Jehovah has a better time coming in which we can see such beautiful friends like Bro. Alston again.
I have never seen Bro Alston without a smile on his face. He truly will be missed. May Jehovah comfort the Alston Family as well as all his family members and the friends. Rest my brother in just a little while Jesus will awaken our loved ones from sleep. Paradise is right around the corner.

Our love goes out to the Altson family. Just know that we feel your pain. We also know that pain will one day be no more. REV 21:3,4. We all long for that day. So, right now just hold on to your wonderful memories of your beloved one. Beg Jehovah for comfort and don’t forget you are loved.
The Shaffer family (Kyle, Larry, Jeanette, Lori) send our love, deepest condolences and prayers to the Alston family during this difficult time of sorrow. Brother Alston is dearly loved and missed and we know that Jehovah our heavenly father and his son Jesus Christ miss him immensely. Jehovah yearns to bring back those who are in his memory and to see them live on earth again. —Job 14:14, 15.
We are sending tears, hugs , and kisses to the entire family. I literally lost my breath for a minute. Bro Alston was my introduction of what a spiritual husband, loving father, and servant of Jehovah looks like. This may sound clich’e- but he was !! smart, honorable, faithful, brutally honest and sooo funny. Bro Alston’s method was simple -1# Love Jehovah 2# Serve Jehovah and 3# Teach by example. Any given day – I could hear him in the back” OK Estelle, let’s finish this Bible reading or Magazine ” or where are you ladies going 😉. He Loved his three children and his beautiful wife. Never doing anything with the goal of making a name for himself. Ohh how I love this family. I am honored to have known him . Are good men hard to find? NOPE- he was always on 324 Oak Glen St with an encouraging thought and beautiful smile. 😘

Alston Family,
Our hearts go out to you all. When we think of brother Alston, that smile as noted in the picture truly comes to mind. He was truly a warm, loving and spirited brother. We would converse with each other as we crossed paths coming out of the Kingdom Hall, him and his bride from Manchester and our family from Southside.
Please accept our condolences. Our prayers and the prayers of others are ascending and will continue to do so in the family’s behalf.
With agape and phila,
The Wilkersons
While words fail to capture the pain of losing a love one , my condolences go out to the family. His wonderful qualities. Such a kind and loving brother. He would ask ” How are you doing? Waiting to hear your response. Both, the young and older ones. Jehovah knows and understands how deep this hurt is felt. So He will keep raising you up, strengthening and sustaining you at this time of such great loss. Isaiah 41:10
To the Alston Family:
I want to extend my deepest, most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all of you. May Jehovah continue to comfort you during this difficult time. Looking forward to Revelation 21:3, 4! ❤️🙏🏽
To The Alston Family:
We send our deepest condolences. We know Jehovah will hold your right hands and provide comfort. Your father is resting and soon will wake up to your loving arms again.
“As for you yourself, go toward the end; and you will rest, but you will stand up for your lot at the end of the days.” (Daniel 12:13)

To the family my sympathy with you all. He was encouraging brother and concern for the friends. Remember the hope John 5. 28 29. He will be miss.
We will truly miss our brother.
Herbert, was a long time friend and brother. He will be sorely missed, but how comforting to know that he is one of those already written in the “book of life”, his will be a resurrection of life! Know that my prayers go out to the family, and friends.
A loving husband, an incredible father, a compassionate shepard, an invaluable friend, and most of all, a good man full of faith and integrity. All these attributes and more define our dearly loved brother in kinship and in faith. It can be said of him as was said in the words written by the apostle Paul,”I have fought the fine fight, I have run the race to the finish, I have observed the faith.” What is truly beautiful is what he has left behind, a wonderful legacy having touched the hearts of so many, each and every on of us, and that the best of him, his words and actions resonate with all of us, more now than ever before and the comfort in knowing that soon very soon he will be with us again! (John 5:28,29) (Job14:15)
As a child I remember fondly all the times we would visit and I’d sit on his office couch and we’d talk. “Do the things that will have lasting value”, he would say. On trips to new York as well as to cananda he’d always be a voice of positivity warmth, love and admonition to the group. As a husband it can be said he loved his wife with a love that was truly timeless and immeasurable- a true inspiration to all of us who would later find happiness in marriage. As a father/grandfather he was a ray of sunshine, a beacon of hope, and a loving shepard. As a friend, priceless in one word!
All our love, thoughts and prayers go out to the family. We stand by you in love and support and in gratitude for the amazing family the Alston have always been.
Kathy and Mama Alston, this is sad news. We will miss Br. Alston until Jehovah gives him back to us. You have my deepest sympathy. I love you💘
To the Austin Family,
With my Deepest Sympathy,
I know I can’t find words that can remove your pain, my prayer however, is that our Father, Jehovah continues to provide you the comfort and strength that only he can give.
A may the many, many memories, you’ve made and our hope for the future uplift you until the sting of death is completely erased.
Acts 24:15, Psalms 147:3
And you know you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers.
Your Spirtual Sister,
Sherry Anderson
Dear Estelle, Kathy, Kevin and Keith,
We are hurting for you, and we are sure that our Heavenly Father fully knows your pain. Dad’s faithful life course and every one of your tears are treasured and recorded our Creator’s *book*. (Ps 56:8) because Jehovah is loyal and calls himself a *rewarder*, He will never forget the love you Alstons have demonstrated and continued to show. We pray that you may find comfort in Jehovah’s assurances of His tender care, and in His promise to restore Herbert to you soon.
With love and warm hugs and sympathies,
–Dave and Claire

Love and Care ,
TO THE ALSTON FAMILY ,
Jimmy and I would like to extend our deepest sympathy. Bro Alston was my introduction to what a spiritual man, husband and father looks like. I never had that. He loved his wife, his two boys and his little girl. I want to think he loved me and my children too. I litterly can not remember a time that I entered his home and he was not reading or studying with Sis Alston in the back. Bro Alston was funny and Brutally Honest 🤣. I can hear him say ” Soooo, where are you ladies going ?? And your wearing that 🙄. then he would say ” You both look good . He always had a big kiss and hug for me and the kids. I love this family. They have been wonderful examples in my life. When he wakes from his nap, I can hear him say , ” Wait, what’s going on here? Did I miss something? And everyone will say “NOPE – YOU- ARE-RIGHT-ON-TIME 😉 ” Bro Alston asking for some pepper and cheese in his grits , and me waiting to see if Sis Alston will fix her yams for dinner . To the family again .LOVE, KISSES and TEARS.
Sorry for your loss Alston family but is all of our loss losing a brother like brother Allston. He was like surrogate father to me and my sisters who moved to Richmond and became friends with his daughter and the whole family he was there to help steer us in the right direction.all my love goes out to the Alston family hopefully I will have a chance to see my real father and my surrogate father in the new world ❤️
Dear Alston Family,
You have our deepest condolences and prayers in this time of loss. Even a short pause is too long when it means separation from the ones we love. But thanks to Jehovah, “the God of all comfort,” for his soothing consolations and for giving us this loving brotherhood for support. – 2 Cor. 1:3,4
My sympathies to the family. Kathy much love to you. May Jehovah keep your loving memories of your dad in your heart until you meet again.
