Obituary message
Howard Daniel Thore of Hopewell, Virginia, born January 30, 1930, departed this life April 28, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Lee Thore (McDaniel); two daughters, Patricia T. Auton (William); Sherian T. Beasley (Emmett); and one son, Howard Kirk Thore (Kyle). Four Grandchildren: Nicole B. Campbell (Richard); Eric L. Beasley; Kristopher K. Thore and Kristen K. Thore. Four Great-Children: Casey S. Campbell, Dylan H. Campbell, Hailey S. Campbell and Landon L. Beasley and one sister-in-law Hilda B. Thore. Howard was born to Arthur Daniel and Minnie Anne Payne Thore who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his four brothers and one sister-in-law; Joseph P. Thore, Kenneth R. Thore (Betty), Edward A. Thore, and Thom R. Thore. Howard served his country in the Korean War Conflict. He was a very proud member of the 101st Airborne, Fort Campbell Kentucky. Being a paratrooper was one of the grandest moments of his life… Howard retired from AlliedSignal, Inc. After retirement, Dad and Mom relaxed, travelled and enjoyed life together with family and friends. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Hopewell. He was also a loyal member of the Dupont Lodge No. 0289 in Hopewell, Virginia for fifty-five years. A special thanks to Mrs. Lou Kaleyta, Mrs. Kathleen Volk, Ms. Emma Dennis and Mr. Ralph McCulley and the professional, dedicated staffs at Tyler’s Retreat and The Dunlop House for their supportive and loving care. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Dunlop House, 235 Dunlop Farms Blvd, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 on Wednesday, May 3; Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 4, 3:30 at the same address.
