Howard Wesley Conselyea
February 2, 1942 – July 17, 2023
Howard Wesley Conselyea departed this realm on Monday, July 17, 2023.
Why write an obituary for someone who never wanted one? Because his 82 trips around the sun deserve mention, albeit a nontraditional one.
Howard Conselyea was a rebel till the end, refusing to follow the rules often just for the sake of discord. He took his fashion cues from no one, as evidenced by his faded “Don’t Tread On Me” and Pink Floyd t-shirts. He was a loner who spent most of his life surrounded by books and animals. He didn’t like many people,
which was a shame since he was the best conversationalist and most well-read person you could ever hope to meet.
He was utterly devoted to his two daughters, Leigh Ann Raab and Traci Lynn Conselyea, who loved him beyond measure.
We never really asked what his last words would be, but knowing him, we suspect he would be OK with this Douglas Adams quote: “So long, and thanks for all the fish”!
Rest easy and know you live on in the memories of your daughters.
Shine on, you crazy diamond.
There will be no funeral or public memorial ceremony. If anyone wants to donate in his memory, please consider the ASPCA, which he was a lifetime member of.
Those that did not get to know Howard certainly missed out, he was super intelligent, well read, well spoken and pretty witty once you cracked the barrier and got to know him, thank you Howard for all the intellectual conversations, the world problem solving we did and lastly the many laughs we had together……………..Rest easy my friend
Leigh Ann. I am so very sorry for your loss. I know he was a big part of your life – even from a distance.
I know he will be missed.
What a great tribute! I know he was special because he raised a spitfire of a daughter!
My favorite memory of cousin Howard was from when I was in first grade. It was a Sunday afternoon, the family has gotten together at my house, and I laid out the Sunday funnies on the living room rug, to read them. (My arms were top short to hold the paper open sitting in a chair.) favored “Henry” and “Nancy” because they did not have a lot of words, and I was a beginner reader. Cousin Howard got down on the floor to read some of the other comics to me, and I appreciated that. He was a teenager by then.
I felt truly blessed to have been able to spend a short time in his presence. He embodies life itself. Such a gift to this sorry plant. I know you have your towel Howard
Traci,
I did not know your father, and reading this makes me think how much I might have enjoyed him. 😍 Turn The Page. This is not a great time in your life, and I’m praying for consolation, love and comfort.
