James David Mitchell
November 24, 1975 – September 1, 2023
James David “Jimmy” Mitchell, 47, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023, after a hard-fought illness.
Born in Morristown, Tennessee, Jimmy moved to Richmond at a young age and graduated from Midlothian High School, class of 1993. Jimmy was a wonderful chef and was most comfortable in the kitchen; he cultivated his cooking skills working in the food service industry, most notably Spinnaker’s Restaurant and Gregory’s Grill.
In addition to cooking, Jimmy loved music, entertaining others with his dry sense of humor, traveling to New Orleans or the beach, and most of all spending time with his brother, Luke, and his niece and nephew.
Jimmy is survived by his mother, Debi Mitchell; father, Jim; brother, Luke; sister-in-law Stephanie; niece, Sadie; nephew, Crawford; uncle Bill Pitts (Vivianne); aunt Alison Cummings (Danny); aunt Kim Craig and his loving extended family. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Roy and Nettie Mitchell; and his maternal grandparents, Dale and Shirley Craig.
Jimmy’s interment will be private. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be forthcoming.
Jimmy was a beautiful spirit, and hi spirit remains with us. He fought the good fight, and he ran the race! Special prayers for the family, but especially his Mother… She was steadfast in love, support, endurance, and being a good Mom to her son!
Jimmy was always such a ray of light, and that really is the best way I can think to describe him. In my three and a half years at Spinnaker’s I always looked forward to the days we would work together because no one could make you laugh like Jimmy could. Though we never saw each other as much after Spinnaker’s, when I would see him it would always be like no time had passed at all. He was such a good, genuine friend and is deeply missed.
I was a regular customer at Spinnakers. Jimmy always made me feel important every time I came in for that tall Miller LIte. I would see him at the Folk Festival with Gregory’s Grill and he wouldn’t let me pay for my sandwich. Rest in peace Jimmy, thanks for the memories.
