Obituary message
VIZTHUM , Jean Ruegg, 85, of Glen Allen, Va., died June 20, 2017. Jean was a dynamic lady who provided true friendship and was a guardian angel to many. She provided never-ending encouragement, with straight-forward talk and patient understanding to those around her. Since she wasn’t afraid to tell it like it is and lovingly gave verbal kicks in the pants when needed, people came to her for guidance and support. During her 38 years working as Director of First Impressions at Owens & Minor, she spearheaded their Salvation Army Shoe Fund, raising thousands of dollars for the cause. Though her life had its trials, her sharp wit and sense of humor remained intact and were her weapons against adversity. She always knew when someone around her was in need and would magically connect the necessary dots, making her assistance appear as if it happened on its own. Jean was a perfect illustration of how to live, love, laugh, enjoy life, help others, give back and carry on. Left to continue Jean’s example are her brother, Paul Donald Ruegg; children; Harry and Diana Sadler, Carolyn and Paul Hawthorne, Sterling and Linda Sadler; grandchildren, Michael Sadler, Amey and Eric Bartholow, Davis Sadler, Leslie and Jason Thibodeau, Jessica Hawthorne and Shawn Schooling; great grandchildren, Reed Bartholow and Babies Thibodeau; and dear friend, Pete Arnett. She was preceded in death by parents, Minnie and Edwin Ruegg; brother, Edwin Davis Ruegg; sisters, Marie Ruegg Hayes and Anna Ruegg Pollard; husband, Harry Sadler Sr.; and husband, Arthur Vizthum.
A visitation will be held June 26 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Christ UMC, 6818 W. Grace St., Richmond, Va. A funeral service will also be held at Christ UMC, on her 86th birthday, June 27, at 10 a.m., with a reception immediately following. Interment service June 27 at 3 p.m. at Meherrin UMC, with reception following at Sheldons.

Dear Carolyn and Family, George and I have you in our thoughts at this time. Jean was so much a part of our lives and and family for so many years. She was there when we had our private wedding ceremony and made it so special for us. She attended and helped at all the weddings and she was such a good friend to Mom and to George and I. You have such good memories of your Mother and may those always bring you happiness in knowing how blessed you were to have her in your life. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for your family.Love, Mitzi and George Hesser and Family
Jean will remain in our hearts and we will never forget her wonderful sense of humor , her generosity and her ability to laugh and enjoy life. This obituary says it all … anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Jean would agree that she was one very special lady. I thank God that she was a great influence and companion to my father in law, Pete Arnett , for many years. She was a devoted caregiver to him after he required some medical intervention . I told Jean that she should have gone into nursing… and she agreed with me. Jean was a very loving and dear friend, and she will always hold a special place in my heart. I know that Jean dearly loved her family and friends. May all who read this find some comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on in her family . If Jean taught us anything, it is to live life to the fullest, and to be loving and kind to each other. I am deeply saddened , but I know that Jean is in a higher realm where there is no more pain. We will always remember this sweet lady from Meherrin with great love and gratitude . Thank you, Carolyn for including Pete in her notice . My deepest condolences to Carolyn and all of the family.
