
Joan Drucilla Spencer
August 20, 1950 – July 12, 2023
Joan Drucilla Spencer was called to rest on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, after her long battle with cancer.
Joan was born on August 20, 1950, in East Gulf, WV to her loving parents, the late Charles Griffin and the late Evelyn Griffin. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend.ย Family meant everything to her.
Joan was preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles Griffin and Evelyn Griffin; her brother, Lorenzo Griffin; her two sisters, Valerie Barringer and Betty Anderson; and a host of loves one.
Joan leaves to cherish her memories her husband, George Spencer of Richmond, VA; her daughter, Teya M. West and son-in-law, Allen L. West II; two granddaughters, Allison L. West and Taylor M. West of Fredericksburg, VA; one sister, Cynthia Thomas of Rhodell, WV; one brother, Larry Griffin of Rhodell, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023,ย at Fox Point Community Center, located at 6120 Blackstone Blvd., Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m.ย on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church, located at 305 Worley Road, Beckley, WV, 25801.
Joan was the best sister in law ever. I will miss her smile and deep affection for family. I will miss the trips to BOSTON from the Bid whiz days. She was a true competitor. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Joan you have a heart of gold, she was welcoming, a women of style and grace!! She never met a stranger, her smile lit up a room.
God wanted his angel back, and as heartbreaking as it is to say goodbye , there is peace in knowing she is healed and is in the presence of God !

We extend our deepest sympathy to the Griffin and Spencer families in the loss of Joan Spencer. She was a dear friend. We’ll always cherish the fond memories of fun and laughter over the years, especially the Jazz concerts in the Washington, D.C. area and the Rhodes cookouts in Beckley.
