Joann Madison Newcomb, 64, of Richmond, VA, died peacefully on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at home. Born June 12, 1954, in Richmond, she was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen Madison of Richmond, VA and her brother, Bobby Madison.
To know Joann was to love her. She was free-spirited, kind, and compassionate. Her true passion in life was caring for animals. She always had a house full of dogs that had been rescued and room for more if there was a need. Even though Joann struggled with major health issues she kept a positive attitude and still did more for others than she asked in return. While she will be missed terribly, her family and friends are grateful she is now resting peacefully in Heaven.
Joann is survived by her husband of 32 years, James Newcomb, two children, Ronnie Hague (Colleen) and Jennifer Steele (Brian), five grandchildren Joshua, Ashton, Brandon, Madison, and Taylor, two great grandchildren and a third one on the way; her sister Barbara Rhoton (Jerry) and two nieces and two nephews, as well as her beloved dogs: Sissy, Buddy, and Lady.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 8 at 1:00 pm at Bonnie Brae Church of Christ, 7610 Staples Mill Road, Henrico, VA. Followed by a reception. The family wishes to thank those who have extended financial and emotional support Joann throughout her illness. Family and friends are kindly invited to come join the celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Associate (www.diabetes.org).
