Joseph Alvin Demouchet

August 14, 1955 – May 22, 2024

Deacon Joseph Alvin Demouchet, 68 of Mechanicsville, VA went home to glory on May 22, 2024, at Memorial Regional Hospital with family.

Born August 14, 1955, in Welsh, Louisiana to Alvin and Rosa Lee Demouchet. He graduated from Welsh High School in 1973.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force, August 10, 1973 and retired as a MSgt., August 31, 1994, after serving honorably for 21 years as an Air Cargo and Passenger Specialist.

He met his beautiful wife, Cassandra Brooks at Yokota Air Base Japan in 1981 and later was married on December 2, 1983, at Charleston AFB SC, and has celebrated 40 years of marriage together. Joe and Cassandra have two children, Kionte and Kierra.

Joe was a loving and caring father who loved to play games and do puzzles with his family. He loved teaching them many new things.

Joe’s hobbies included bowling, playing bid whist, tonk, pinnacle, solving puzzles, board games, dominoes, and trash-talking. Joe loved his New Orleans Saints “Who Dat” nation. His favorite TV shows were Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, WWE, Swamp People, NCIS, Star Trek, and anything on the History or Science channels.

Joe joined the New Chestnut Baptist Church in 1996, where he was the Head Deacon for many years. He participated with the Youth Ministry, Head of the Sunday School ministry and Teacher, in charge of the New Member Class, which he also taught. He was a member of the Men’s Ministry, and he sang in the men’s choir. He was also a member of the CBA Deacon’s conference and the CBA Men’s Ministry. He was also a member of the Sunday School Bowling League.

Joe is survived by his wife Cassandra Demouchet, two children Kionte and Kierra Demouchet. Brother, James Roland Demouchet (Ruby). Joe has three Aunts, Betty Joseph, Barbara Ellis, Norma Jean Demouchet. Joe has two nieces, Shemika Traylor (Timagnus), Jennifer Demouchet and three nephews, Jayvale Walker, Dominique and Christian Demouchet. Joe has 5 Godchildren, Sammy Joseph, Shemika Traylor, Andre, Alonte, and Arrianna “Jade” Hunt, and a host of family and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his Father, James Alvin Demouchet, and Mother, Rosa Lee Demouchet. Brother, John Gilbert Demouchet.

Joe’s famous saying was “Why Do You Do What You Do”

A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
