Joseph Chris Hargrove
May 9, 1961 – July 29, 2023
Joseph Chris (widely known as) “Cuz” Hargrove, 62, of Richmond, VA passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023. He was born in Richmond, Va on May 9, 1961, to Frie Hargrove and Martha Bullock Hargrove. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Aaron and Kendra Hargrove; and his favorite cousin, Patrick H. Henderson. He accepted Christ at an early age and was educated in Richmond Public Schools.
He’d always have plenty of stories to share about his childhood in Henderson, NC. where most of his family is from. During his younger years, he enjoyed all sports, learning mechanic skills, dance parties and overall having a good time. Not only was Joe Blow (as known by some) the life of the party, he was a man that could get things done. He never stayed still and if you needed a car fixed, yard work, patio built, or pretty much anything else you could definitely call on him. There wasn’t a job he wouldn’t try and if he didn’t know how he’d always find a way to make it work “his way.” One of his proudest accomplishments was being a part of the entire construction of the 895 bridge.
During his teenage years, he met Lynette Benjamin-Morris, their relationship produced two children and a lifelong friendship through which he inherited an abundance of sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Among them were devoted nephews, Jamie and Bryan Lewis, and Patrick Henderson.
Later in life, he found love with Jackie Jackson, her children, and grandchildren. Their love for each other lasted until the end.
He will be remembered for his dance skills, his willingness to help anyone and the way he loved and made everyone feel like family. His overall excitement (or disappointment) for the Dallas Cowboys will forever go unmatched! We will never forget his many jokes and special sayings that continue to make us laugh!
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter and son, Kristen, and Evan Benjamin; grandson and granddaughter, Kieran and Khilyn Benjamin whom he adored and gave him the title of Papa which brought him so much joy; his little grandbuddy, Aa’dyn Whitaker; two sisters, Ida Yates, and Margie Hargrove; nieces, Fe’Lisa Yates, Trimika Yates Tuckett, and LaTreace Hargrove; goddaughter, Bria Ellerbe; and a host of friends. Among those were his devoted friends, Tony Monroe, Ernest Coleman, and Teresa Smith. As well of plethora families that will miss him tremendously.
A visitation will be held from Noon to 1 pm on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, with a service at 1 pm at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294.

Chris, my handy man, a jack of all trades was introduced to me by my deceased husband, Richard Jones as a long lost family member who had finally been found!! This was a joke between the two. Chris could do and if he couldn’t he’d give it his best shot most of the time reaching his goal. He’s truly going to be missed. To the family you have my deepest sympathy. To Chris, rest my friend. Look for those who have preceded you and those left here we shall see you again
