
Joyce L. Cahoon
December 23, 1947 – April 16, 2023
In the early morning of Sunday, April 16, 2023, Joyce passed away peacefully. She was being visited and comforted by family members in her home in Highland Springs, VA. She was 75 years old.
Joyce was born in Hinton, West Virginia on December 23, 1947. She was the youngest child of Oscar and Virginia Lawrence.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Cary L. Cahoon; son Neil Cahoon and wife Norma of Highland Springs; daughter April Dryden and husband David of Sandston; three beautiful granddaughters Sunni Cahoon of Midlothian, Jordan Cahoon of Richmond and Madison Cahoon of Highland Springs; two great-grandchildren Kevin and Aaliyah Jones both of Richmond; and brother Fred Lawrence and wife Rita of Yorktown; loving brother-in-law David W. Lively of Yorktown; loving sister-in-law Joyce “Rejoice” Lawrence; and her beloved Yorkie, Izzy-Belle. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar H. Lawrence and Virginia E. Lawrence of Hampton; her only sister Mary Faye Lively of Yorktown; and three brothers, Ed and Jack Lawrence, both of West Virginia and Bill Lawrence of Newport News.
She managed convenience stores for several years before leaving work to stay home and care for her three granddaughters. She was talented in many things but especially enjoyed crocheting, and knitting and was a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed various types of music but was very fond of Motown and loved to dance. She also loved playing games on her phone and enjoyed classic TV shows, and movies, and loved Pastor Charles Stanley. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by many.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at Affinity Funeral Service Mechanicsville Chapel, 8074 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with David W. Lively presenting the eulogy. The interment will be private.
