
Joyce Wright Blythe

Joyce Wright Blythe, age 79, died Sunday, February 5, 2023, surrounded by love in her home in Midlothian, VA.
Joyce was born on April 13, 1943, in Newport, News VA, and was the daughter of the late Thomas C. Wright, Sr and Dorothy Harris Wright of Victoria, VA. Joyce graduated from Victoria High School in 1961 and attended Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC. She began her career in Chesterfield County Public Schools, first serving as a secretary at Chalkley Elementary School and subsequently as the assistant librarian at Jacobs Road Elementary School. After her retirement in June 2000, Joyce continued her career in education by serving her community as a substitute teacher, and in total Joyce’s career in education lasted 48 years.
Joyce was kind, sweet, and generous and had a gift for making others feel comfortable and loved in her presence and home. She could always entertain with her bubbly personality and had a knack for storytelling. Joyce was devoted to her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She will be remembered and missed for her loving nature, loyalty, and compassion.
Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Paula Blythe Satterwhite and husband Chris of Powhatan, VA; Nicole Blythe of Midlothian, VA; and three grandchildren, Gabe Satterwhite, Christina Satterwhite, and Caleb Satterwhite of Powhatan, VA. Joyce is also survived by her brother and sister, Thomas C. Wright, Jr. and wife Rose of Victoria, VA and Margaret Wright Hornbeck and husband Bill of Lancaster, VA.; four nephews, Thomas C. Wright III of Victoria, VA, Briggs Wright of New York City, NY, Shannon Hunt of Bradenton, FL. and Travis Hunt of Los Angeles CA.; and one great nephew, Nicholas Hunt of Richmond, VA.
Friends of the family are invited to an interment service to be held by her family at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 at Lakeview Cemetery 1105 Marshall Ave. Victoria, VA . Following the internment, the family invites friends to a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. at The Boathouse at Sunday Park .
If you have a sister you have a friend for life. Joyce was a gift to my heart and I am grateful she was my sister. Rest in peace.
