Judy Snyder Berman

January 6, 1947 – April 3, 2023

Judy Snyder Berman, 76, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away on April 3, 2023.

She spent most of her life in the Annandale/Springfield area of Northern Virginia. During that time, she enjoyed her work assisting opticians for many years. Customers frequently made a point of telling the doctors that her warm personality was the reason they kept coming back. For their part, the doctors came to rely on her computer-like memory of patients and their histories.

A Virginia native, she also lived for 8 years in Phoenix, Ariz., before returning to Virginia – just outside of Richmond – a couple years before her passing.

Judy was a dedicated reader all her life, some of her favorite authors included Danielle Steel, John Saul, VC Andrews, and Catherine Coulter among many, many others. She seldom went anywhere without a book in her hand, even if there was no chance of her having the time to read it. It was her love of books and reading, which she instilled in her son at an early age, that led him to pursue his own career in writing.

Country music was another great passion in her life, with some of her favorite performers including Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton.

Married to Richard Berman for more than 50 years, she was also devoted to her beloved dog, Frankie, and loved squirrels, birds, and other animals. One of her fondest memories was feeding squirrels peanuts when they would come up to her window when she lived in a townhouse next to Fairfax Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Berman; son, Aaron; and daughter-in-law, Pamela. During her life, she proudly told people that she had 9 brothers and 3 sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews, and treasured the moments when she would hear from them by phone or mail.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
