I’m a fan, not only of the bass guitar but also of Finney’s kind nature. Anyone could see he cared about the people around him. When he shared some of his wisdom with you, it was on point and delivered with the right amount of humor. I’ll miss Finney Hughes.
Sure going to miss you my sweet friend. Till we meet again.
I love you more than words can express. I looked up to you when we were children. I wanted to be around you. You made everyone smile and laugh with your stories. I missed you so when you left Richmond. All my teeny -bopper (as you called us) girlfriends thought you were a ‘hunk.’ They would scramble around to see and say, “Look, here comes Finney!” I remember Mom taking me to the Satellite Club when I was a teenager to see you play. Mom, Dad, Kenny and I never stopped thinking about you all those years you were playing and living in Georgia. You were Mom’s ‘Prodigal son.’ Love ya and you’ll always be in my heart. See ya on the flip side. Love, Your little Sis.
Finney where to begin. From the moment I met you I knew I had a friend. You are one of the kindest human beings I have ever had the honor of knowing. You were always checking on me when you were the one who needed checking up on. My favorite memory will be the night we kept Mustang Sally’s open until 1am. It was only you and I and about 10 feet of snow outside. You followed me to the interstate and made me promise to call when I got home. Not 5 mins from walking in the door my phone rang, the popped up “Baby Daddy Finney” you could always make me smile. I could always count on a comforting hug. But most importantly I always had a genuine friend. I’ll love you forever. Tell Willie I said hi. Love you.
Always enjoyed Finney. Jammed with him a few times at open mics nights. Great bassist and a fun, friendly, cool person

Finney was a kind and true friend. We met each other over 40 years ago and even when he moved away we still kept in touch. I shared many good times with Shirley & Finney and the memories I have of him are very special. Praying for his family and friends..
Finney was an AWESOME friend and person I’ll definitely miss him as he had a way of lifting me up when I was down I always looked forward to seeing him anytime I was in the areas where he played no one could ever take his place

I am very sad to hear of Finny’s passing. It was a shock to say the least. He was such a good hearted guy.
I miss you already my friend , ride free? RIP
God has to take Angel’s to heaven & he took one of them away from us but he is still here in our hearts..
Thank you Finney for sharing your life and talent with RVA! Many were touched by your gentle kindness!
I am glad I met Finney,
He always seemed to have a smile or a hug for everyone around him. He carried such a presence when he entered a room that it just seemed to light up. I will always remember whenever I got to sing how he would smile and nod his head to the tune side to side then when I hit a certain note he would stretch his neck and nod forward as in saying ” yeah thats it”. God Bless your big heart and thank you for being my friend and everyones Angel… now you just have your wings finally… you will be missed
Finny was one of the nicest guys I know. His bass playing combined with his good natured spirit made him fun to be around. Now he is playing with all those great musicians that went before him. RIP brother.
I didn’t know you but for a few years, but you left such an imprint on my heart! Things will never be the same not seeing you out and about. Love you and keep an eye on us fools down here!
Rest in Peace Finny. I’ll always appreciate the undeserved kindness you extended to me back in Macon.

A real loss for all of us, we mourn your passing. You are greatly missed. Your beautiful spirit will remain in our hearts and memories but will live on eternally in Heaven. Thank you for showing us all how we should support and uplift one another, thank you for your wisdom, thank you for words of encouragement and, mostly, thank you for sharing part of your life with us.
O God, give rest to the soul of Thy departed servant in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away.
You will be greatly missed Finny. My admiration for Finny was in high respects. Will miss stealing his sandwiches! He always had a comment of some sort to make me forget about my problems and just enjoy playing the music. You were one of a kind ! Rock in Peace Finn-man. I will never forget the things you taught me.
Fly fast and free, darlin’, with the wind in your hair and know how much you were loved. Forever and always. Puddin’ Head.
