Linda Dyson Abbatiello
October 24, 1941 – June 6, 2023
Linda (Johnson) Dyson Abbatiello died in her home in Richmond, VA on June 6, 2023.
Linda was born in Detroit in 1941 to Venable Dunnington Johnson and (Willis) Jane Ellwood Johnson. Throughout Linda’s youth, she lived in several towns in Michigan, Florida, and New York State, and finally in Penfield, NY where she spent the last years of her formative youth. Linda graduated from the University of Rochester in 1967. She later married and had one son, Brian, and settled in Syracuse, NY where she worked as a social worker and then as a commercial real estate broker (the only woman to do so in Syracuse). Linda married a second time in 1998 to her longtime love James F. Abbatiello of Syracuse. Eventually, Linda chose to move to the warmer climates of Cary, NC, and then Richmond, VA where she settled over 20 years ago.
Linda worked as an antiques dealer in Richmond, was an absolute Syracuse University lacrosse fanatic, and enjoyed her friends at the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings at the Veterans Affairs Hospital. She was very giving and donated to anyone who had a cause.
Linda is survived by her son Brian, daughter-in-law Amy, grandchildren Brenna and Garrett, sister Nancy, and niece and nephew Lindsay and Victor.
In lieu of flowers, Linda’s family knows that she would have liked donations to be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
