Lois Frances Wright Kibler

September 9, 1943 – February 18, 2024

Lois Frances Wright Kibler, 80, of Glen Allen, VA passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024, under hospice care at her home.

She is survived by her loving and supportive husband of 58 ½ years, Manton Mahone Kibler III, Frances delivered fraternal twin daughters three years later and a third daughter followed after another two years; four grandchildren, Andrew William Phillips, Grant Michael Schooling, Blair Margaret Schooling, and Luke Preston Phillips; three sisters Sarah Walton Briles; Patsy Wright Brigman (Richard); and Debra Wright Bakun (Theodore). She was preceded in death by her parents Lois Virginia Perrin Hickman and James Gordon Wright, Sr., two sisters, Margaret Walton Hambro and Tammy Wright Humphries, and one brother, James Gordon Wright, Jr.

Frances was born September 9, 1943, in Richmond, VA.  She was a 1962 graduate of George Wythe High School. She was employed as an administrative assistant at Reynolds Metals/Alcoa from 1962 to 1968 before taking a seven-year hiatus to become a mother and homemaker. She later returned to Reynolds Metals/Alcoa until her retirement in 2001. After retirement, she was invited to join the accounting staff at Bon Secours Health System where she continued to work another nine years before retiring to help care for her aging mother-in-law and father-in-law.

Frances was an avid reader and also loved to bowl. She joined several bowling leagues and that is where she met her husband, Manton Kibler III; better known as MM or Kibby. They married on May 22, 1965. Frances delivered fraternal twin daughters on August 6, 968, and a third daughter on August 21, 1970. After retirement, Frances and Kibby traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, and several mid-western states. They also enjoyed annual summer trips to Myrtle Beach with their children and grandchildren.

Frances was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, with a recurrence in 2018.  She fought a courageous battle and underwent several forms of treatment until she chose to enter hospice care in October 2023.  The family would like to especially thank her Suncrest Hospice team (Ashley, Uniqua, Brandy, Natalie, Deidre, and Chaplain Nieporte) for their excellent care, compassion, and spiritual counseling during Mrs. Kibler’s end-of-life journey.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, February 23, at Affinity Funeral Service – Mechanicsville Chapel, 8074 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA 23111  followed by a Celebration of Life Service. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on  Monday, February 26, at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Road, Hanover, VA 23069.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any cancer research facility or charity of one’s choice.
