LTC Robert E. Miller (Bob), PhD, 69, of Midlothian, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, after a short illness. Bob was born on June 21, 1954, in Amarillo, Texas to Eugene Lee Miller and Mary Evelyne Miller. Bob served in the Army for 20 years in a variety of roles prior to retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. During this time, he worked at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research on schistosomiasis; with the Brazilian Army in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on malaria, HIV, and schistosomiasis research; served as an instructor at Uniform Services University; and continued his research career with the US Army Medical Materiel Agency and the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity, both at Ft. Detrick. Bob finished his career at Ft. Detrick, Maryland as the Director of Regulatory Affairs for the Department of Defense. Outside of work, Bob adored his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He was an avid reader, enjoyed pistol shooting, relished traveling to other countries, and loved photography. The favorite subjects for his cameras were his grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Evelyne Miller, and granddaughter, Penelope.
He leaves behind his wife of over 47 years, Cynthia Baker Miller; two sons, Scott Miller (Nancy) and Will Miller (Lissa); and five grandchildren, Helen, David, Logan, Noah, and Annelise. He also leaves behind two brothers, Tom and David (Karen) as well as numerous other family members and friends.
A gathering celebrating Bob’s life may be held at a later date.
