Margarita Irek
May 20, 1952 – January 2, 2023
Margarita Irek, 70, of Richmond, Virginia passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023, in her home.
Margarita was born in Bogota, Colombia, and lived her early years in Caracas, Venezuela where she helped raise her two sisters and two brothers and assisted her mother with the family shoe business. Later, she visited the University of Wisconsin to learn English before starting a family for some years in San Diego. After settling in Virginia, she worked at Kaiser Permanente brightening the lives of her friends, co-workers, and patients with her singing, humor, and smile for more than 27 years. There she went out of her way to help so many patients when many in the system wouldn’t.
Margarita attended Word of Life Assembly of God for decades practicing her faith, worship, and fellowship with many close friends there. After her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she spent over a decade taking special care of her every day until she has diagnosed with brain cancer herself. With such strength, grace, and unwavering faith, she battled cancer for over three years, when doctors said she had much less time. She spent these final years with her son traveling, going to the beach, enjoying long walks, singing, and doing what she loved most. She was the best friend to her son and a shining light of smiles, laughter, and positivity to everyone she met. Her enduring warmth is a lasting blessing to us all.
Margarita is survived by her son Joseph; sisters Yolanda and Anita; and brothers Samuel and Luis.
The interment will be private.
