Margueritte Louise Beck
June 21, 1918-January 19, 2021
Margueritte Louise Beck, 102, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Osborne Beck, Retired US Air Force. She is survived by her two loving and devoted daughters Shirley Unger (Don) of Richmond, VA, and Joyce Scholl of West Palm Beach, FL; four granddaughters Blaine Butler (Kyle) and Brittney Butler (Doug) of Charlottesville, VA, Susan Williams (Josh) of West Point, VA, and Bonnie Donahue (Shane) of Arlington, TX; and great-grandchildren Berkley and Beckham Donahue.
Louise grew up in Alabama and later moved with her husband to Jacobus, Pennsylvania, where she raised her family. She taught school at Lincolnway Elementary in West York County and was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Jacobus. Upon the passing of her husband, Louise moved to Richmond to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.
Louise dedicated her life to her family, church, and helping those around her. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, spending 25 years as a bellringer, teaching Bible School, attending weekly church and Sunday School. She could always be found helping others including feeding the neighborhood stray animals and birds, and volunteering at Glen Allen Elementary School. Outside of church and volunteering, she enjoyed travel, theatre, bingo, slots, dance aerobics, and Zumba well into her 90’s. Anyone that knew Louise knew she enjoyed a good laugh; she always had a list of fun jokes in her purse or a quick-witted response to share. Louise lived her life fully and was an inspiration to many.
The family would like to thank Beth Sholom Gardens and especially Tiffany, Letitia, and Tonya for watching over Louise during her final years.
Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers can be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Richmond SPCA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Having Louise as a student in my aerobic classes for 20 years, I could always count on her the keep us laughing and to check up on anyone who missed a class. I still recall celebrating her 80th birthday after one of our classes. She continued dancing with us for several more years until I stopped teaching. I know that she would have continued had I kept the class going. She was an inspiration to all of us to keep moving and keep healthy. She is surely dancing and laughing in heaven right now. She will be missed.
Louise was an inspiration to us all. She was energetic, upbeat and told the funniest jokes. Our aerobics class was so special!
Mrs Beck was my teacher at Lincolnway Elementary. I am very sorry for your loss.
Always looked forward to Louise telling jokes in aerobics class. Will always remember her. Prayers for her and her family.
So glad to have known her from Christ U.M.Church Jacobus, comfort and good memories to the family
Louise was a dear friend of my Mom, Millie Simmons, through Trinity Church. I hope they are having a wonderful reunion in heaven. My sincere condolences to the family.
Kathy, thanks for your kind words. I miss your Mom! Had so much fun going out to eat & to plays with her. I phoned Millie Beverage to tell her about Mom. She is living w/ her daughter in NC. I really thought my Mom would celebrate her 103rd b- day. Was surprised to hear she had passed away, but life was little more than an existence- unable to do activities she use to enjoy
Louise was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a sweet and kind lady. Admired by many. She lived her life well.
While my mother also resided at Beth Sholom I would often speak with MS. Beck who delighted in telling me that she was 100 years old. Always a smile on her face she will be missed by all.
