Marsha Butler Murray
Sept. 29, 1950 – Jul. 10, 2020
Marsha Lynn Butler Murray, 69, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on July 10, 2020, in the comfort of her home and family. Marsha was a warrior and battled cancer for more than four years. Despite the hardships of this disease, she always kept a positive attitude with many smiles and laughter. She was preceded in death by her father, Byron Edward Butler, and her mother, Doris Schumann Butler. Marsha will be forever loved by her husband of 45 years, Ian James Murray; daughter Kelly Elizabeth Murray; son Michael James Murray and his wife Jenna Blandford Murray; grandchildren Parker and Maddie Murray; and in-laws Rob and Joanne Blandford. Marsha was a 1968 graduate of Douglas Freeman High. Before committing full-time to family life and raising two great children plus taking care of many loving pets, Marsha worked with the Independent Board of Insurance Agents and the Richmond Board of Realtors. She also volunteered for Henrico Public Schools in the Writing to Read program. She was a very giving, compassionate and loving person to all! She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but know that the universe will have our paths cross again one day. A family gathering is planned to celebrate her beautiful spirit and life. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Cancer Society at Donate3.cancer.org.
Arrangements by Affinity Funeral Service Richmond Chapel.

Remembering such a nice time at our house grilling on our deck when we lived there. When you were leaving my dog Max (hobo that he was) just jumped into your Minivan. Only later did I find out you had slipped him some steak during dinner. He never got people-food so you were magic to him!
Jan and I are so saddened. As you know Jan is a two time survivor but always it is in your mind. I wish you and the kids peace, grieving and then remembering the best of times like above. Our thoughts are with you.

Ian, I only knew Marsha briefly from my short time living in Richmond many years ago. However, she made a great and lasting impression by her kindness to me during a time that I was a ridiculous, immature grad student. I have remembered her fondly over the years and will continue in those thoughts. My sincere condolences to you and your family. God bless my old friend.

Anne & I send our prayers and condolences for Marsha who was such a compassionate lady and a tough fighter. We knew her as an awesome wife, mother, and grandmother of whom Ian was always very proud of. We are saddened by your loss and wish you comfort that while she is in Heaven, she can look down and help you shave just 3 strokes off your game.
It was always a pleasure to see Marsha’s smiling face when the Muir Foodwagon came to the Murray household. Marcia will be greatly missed and may she rest in peace. God Bless the entire family.
