
Mary Frances Wright
December 18, 1955 – July 20, 2023
Mary Frances Wright, 67, Of Colonial Heights Va, joined her beloved husband Charles Wright, and the Lord, on Thursday, July 20, 2023. She was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born December 18, 1955, Mary grew up in the south side of Richmond. A childhood member of the Girl Scouts, Mary continued to grow and evolve with the program eventually becoming a scout counselor herself, along with other youth groups. She would reference Camp Alkulana in the mountains of Milboro Springs Va. as one of her favorite places, as she held many stories and memories in her heart of moments had.
Settling down with her childhood sweetheart Charles, They raised three beautiful children, Melissa, Jaime, and Charles. The devoted wife and mother worked over two decades in hospitals and production as an EKG technician, prepping surgical trays, and also a label maker for Ukrops. When asked about how Mary is remembered, her children speak of her love for dancing, playing cards, and Puzzles. They recall her best advice being- ‘Believe only half of what you see, and none of what you hear’ and ‘Never go to bed Angry.’ They lovingly recalled her favorite memory that brought the biggest laughs – Charles trying to reach something on a stool, and the items failing down all over his head. She loved him deeply, and it was returned.
As Mary aged, her body decided it was time to rest in February of 2013. she lived with her daughter Jamie and her husband John spending as much time with her grandchildren as she could, as she loved them so very much.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 2012, her sister Virginia ‘Jenny’ Jenkins, her stepson Charles Baton ‘CB’ Brooks, and her sister-in-law Hillary Shampine. Mary is survived by her two daughters, Jamie Able & husband John, Melissa Childress, and her husband James. Her step-daughter Brandi Patterson and her husband Joseph, her two brothers Michael Shampine and James Allen, and his wife Shawn, her step-sister Paula Boyd, many nieces and nephews, and 10 grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to Noon with a funeral service to follow at Noon Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
